We looked at W. Eugene Smith this evening and his Country Dr photo essay, this is what we need to achieve for our week in a life project. The class also looked at similar styles of documentary photography and Roger told us that we need around 6 photos for this project. For the environmental portrait we only meed the 1 photo.

1st evening back in college and we went over what our tasks and projects are going to be this year. We have a project to do by Christmas on a week in a life of and a work environmental portrait. We also have a year long which is open and a winter landscape to shoot. I'm really looking forward to this years coarse as its more documentary photography which is the style I'm leaning towards.
While in London we went to the Natural History Museum and the Getty Gallery just of Oxford Street .The Getty Gallery were showing work by Bret Hardy - Picture Post Legend, the exhibition was free which was a bonus. Bret was a self taught photographer and worked for the Picture Post magazine. Bret was also a war photographer who cover the D-Day landings, the Liberation of Paris and the allied advance across the Rhine. The exhibition is on now until the 5th October 2013, well worth a visit and the Getty Gallery is a very nice Gallery to view Bret Hardy work.
Went to London for a couple of days and thought I would try some street photography while I was there. I took my Fuji x100 which I bought especially for this, it's small, light and I don't have to think about which lenses I need to pack as its a fixed lens. I love the x100 as its light, it doesn't stick out like my DSLR and much smaller. I used aperture priority mode while walking about so didn't have to think about ISO or shutter speed. Overall I enjoyed the experience and next time I go out to do street I want to have a theme to follow, instead of just snapping away. I didnt try and get any candid portraits as I need to build my confidence but tried to get some moments.
